Chris Ryall is the Chief Creative Officer and Editor-in-Chief of IDW Publishing. He oversees IDW Publishing’s comic-book and graphic-novel publishing, helping acquire major licenses such as The Transformers, Star Trek, Judge Dredd, and many other brands, as well as helping determine the creative approach and creative teams on IDW’s wide array of comic books.
Additionally, Ryall is an Eagle- and Eisner Award-nominated comic book writer and editor, and the co-creator of Zombies vs Robots, Groom Lake, The Hollows, The Colonized, and Onyx. He has also written comic-books adaptations of films such as Shaun of the Dead, George Romero’s Land of the Dead, and Neil Gaiman’s Beowulf; prose adaptions of work by Richard Matheson and Robert Bloch for Doomed magazine; Clive Barker’s The Great and Secret Show; Matheson’s Duel and the Stephen King/Joe Hill story Throttle. Ryall has also written comics for such titles as Transformers, Kiss, Weekly World News, Mars Attacks, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and String Divers. He has also co-written a prose book about comics, Comic Books 101. In 2016, Ryall will oversaw and co-wrote the revival of the fan-favorite Hasbro property, Rom the Space Knight.
Prior to joining IDW, Chris served as Editor-in-Chief for filmmaker Kevin Smith’s Web venture; a corporate speechwriter for American Honda Motor Corp; a creative executive with Dick Clark
Communications; an advertising copywriter; and an extra on season one of Saban Entertainment’s Power Rangers TV series.
